In the District - News and Activities

After much planning and preparation by the five host clubs (Bay Blossom, Country Gardeners, Edenwood, Lexington, and Village Gardeners),  the West Sandhills District Meeting was on March 22, 2012 at the Garden Club Council of Greater Columbia.  Director Juanita Motley welcomed everyone to the lovely setting of pastel bird houses all blooming with beautiful azaleas.
Janice Hull did a presentation on “All About Herbs,” and Lilyan Carlson gave a design program on “Plant, Grow, Show.”  The guest speaker, Rebecca Bull Reed, gave a delightful and informative presentation on “Good to Grow.”  Please check out the West Sandhills District web page where you will find two video presentations on this day’s activities.
The District Nominating Committee presented the slate for the next term (2013-2015).  The District Director will be Betty Jackson, and her Co-Director will be JoEllen Barbare.
The attendance was the highest in recent years which I attribute to the fact that we are not having a fall meeting this term.  Mary Lil Wannamaker, President, St. Matthews Garden Club invited everyone to the 2013 District Meeting which will be in St. Matthews on March 6, 2013.
Recognition and special thanks were given to all who had made this day so very special.
After a delicious catered luncheon, Co-Director Karen McConnell presented awards.
Door prizes and special baskets of plants went home with everyone.  It had been a good day indeed.
