A Book of Evidence must be submitted with each award application and must follow these rules.  It must
have a minimum of three pages (single  sided) to a maximum of five pages (double sided).  Folder color
is yellow.  Pages must be securely fastened in clear sheet covers.

All pages in the Book of Evidence are to be placed under clear plastic pages and they must include:

1.        The name of award and award number (example Conservation Award #3).
2.        Name/address/phone number of Garden Club, Club President, and person submitting book.
3.        A summary of your project, including the reason why your club considered this a worthwhile project.
4.        One or more photos—preferable a ‘before’ and ‘after’ if appropriate.
5.        An indication of the costs involved and the source of funding (lengthy budget is not required). 6.        The number of club members who worked on the project and whether any community participation was involved.

 Scope of Project 30 pts (10 pts each)

1.        Appropriate for award sought

 Book of Evidence  40 pts (10 pts each)

1.        Followed rules
2.        Neat and bound adequately (not scrapbook-like)
3.        Narrative summary describes project fully and clearly enough for readers to understand project and what club was trying to accomplish
4.        One or more photos included

West Sandhills District Awards  

  1. 1. Club Yearbook Award (No Book of Evidence required.)

One copy is due to Awards Chairman with a postmark not later than September 1.

  1. 2. President’s Report Award

Submit your report to your District Director in Book of Evidence format.

  1. 3. Backyard Wildlife Habitat Award

This award goes to the club reporting the highest percentage of members becoming Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat members within the year.

  1. 4. Youth Award

This award recognizes a club or club member for meritorious accomplishments with South Carolina’s youth in areas of GCSC, Inc. areas of emphasis such as wildlife, conservation, horticulture, civic beautification, and the environment.

  1. 5. Garden Therapy Award

This award recognizes the club with the most resourceful project involving a nursing home, clinic, hospital, doctor’s office or similar location dealing with a “unique” population.

  1. 6. Arbor Day Award

Applicants will be judged on the scope of the event.  Efforts should be made to include other organizations.

  1. 7. National Garden Week Activities Award

This award recognizes the club, group of clubs or council with the most outstanding project, exhibit, or activity to celebrate the National Garden Week.

  1. 8. District Meeting Attendance Award

This award recognizes the club with the largest number of members in attendance at each district meeting.  Host garden club(s) counts will be excluded for the meeting they are hosting.  No application is needed.

  1. 9. Civic Beautification Award

This award is given to a club for an outstanding civic beautification project.  Project need not to have been completed before submitting.  (This award may not be won by the same club two consecutive years.)

  1. 10. Healing Garden Award

This award recognizes a club for the most outstanding project or activity in the area of garden therapy.  This might include taking gardening to patients, placing bird feeders outside windows where patients can enjoy them or creating an outside garden with raised beds for patients with limited mobility.

  1. 11. Community Participation Award

This award recognizes a club, group of clubs, or council with the greatest community participation (largest number of participants) in a garden-oriented.

  1. 12. Conservation/Recycling Award

This award recognizes the club with the most innovative conservation or recycling project.

  1. 13. Flower Show Award

This award recognizes the club having the most outstanding flower show.

  1. 14. Christmas Beautification Award

This award goes to the club with the most outstanding project decorating a public building such as a nursing home, library, hospitals, etc. for the Christmas season.  (Pictures must be included.)

  1. 15. Carolina Fence Garden/Schoolyard Habitat Award

This award is given to the club for the most comprehensive program concerning Carolina Fence Gardens/Schoolyard Habitats.  Please include before and after photos.
