"The annual West District Meeting of the garden clubs of South Carolina met March 5, 2012 with Betty Thacker, Director, presiding.
Awards were given out and the food and piano entertainment
were provided by the Garden Club of Greenwood.
It was a lovely affair enjoyed by all."

Joan Wilson did the design program at the West Piedmont District Meeting. Her program was a tribute to Helen Fuseler a WPD Member. Helen had been commissioned to do a painting of the Carolina Jessamine and Yellow Swallow Tail Butterfly after the Garden Club of South Carolina was instrumental in getting them named the State Flower and State Butterfly of South Carolina. Joan depicted the famous painting in a design of 'contrived' flowers. In Joan's hand is another Helen Fuseler painting of the Spider tail lily. Joan's two designs of contrived flowers were constructed from the seed pods from the Chinese Lantern Tree and florist wire. The butterflies were made from dried Sago Palm fronds.
