EAST LOWCOUNTRY DISTRICT AWARDS for 2011

District Awards #53, 54, 55 and 56 will be awarded according to the guidelines stated in the current GCSC Handbook.  First Place winners in these categories will be forwarded to the State Awards Chairman.

#53 - CLUB YEARBOOK AWARD
DUE:  September 1st.  Send copy to District Director and GCSC President.  First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention awards may be given in each membership class (Clubs under 20; 20-29; 30-44; 45-69; 70-99; 100-299; and over 300 members)

#54 -  COUNCIL YEARBOOK AWARD
DUE:  September 1st.  Send copy to District Director and GCSC President.  Certificate awarded to the Council with the most informative yearbook; judged in membership categories the same as Yearbook Awards.

#55 - CLUB REPORTS
DUE:  February 1st.  Send copy to District Director and GCSC President; judged in membership categories the same as Yearbook Awards.

#56 - COUNCIL REPORTS
DUE:  February 1st.  Send copy to District Director and GCSC President; judged in membership categories the same as Yearbook Awards.

 

EAST LOWCOUNTRY DISTRICT AWARDS

These awards will be judged on individual merit and will not be divided into membership categories.  A book of evidence is required except for #2, #8 and #16 which will be taken from your Club Report.

#1 – CLUB MEETING EXHIBITION AWARD -  $25 awarded to the club with the highest percentage of members participating in monthly club meeting Exhibition Flower Shows during the award year.  Application required with details of schedule(s), staging, judging, and number of design and horticulture entries each month.

#2 – MEMBERSHIP AWARD - Rotating silver bowl awarded to the club with the highest percentage increase in membership during the award year.  Include details in Club Report.

#3 – CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION AWARD - Rotating silver tray awarded for the most  outstanding beautification of a public site.  Donor: Nancy Wood     

#4 – SCHOOLYARD WILDLIFE HABITAT AWARD  - $25 awarded to the club or clubs with the most outstanding service to a Schoolyard Habitat and/or Carolina Fence Garden at a school. 

#5 – BLUE STAR HIGHWAY AWARD – $25 awarded to the club with the most outstanding project to establish, renovate, or maintain a Blue Star Marker or ByWay Marker. 

#6 – CLUB PROGRAM AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a club for an original program written by a garden club member and presented to club.  Program theme must be one of GCSC Objectives (Birds, Garden Therapy, Horticulture, etc.).

#7 – HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD - $25 awarded to club, group of clubs, or council for an outstanding preservation project or historic garden, cemetery, park or marker. 

# 8 – HORTICULTURE AWARD - $25 awarded to club or individual winning the most blue ribbons in Horticulture in a Standard or Small Standard Flower Show during the award year.  Include details in Club Report.

#9 – NATIONAL GARDEN WEEK  AWARD - Rotating silver award to club promoting the objectives of GCSC during National Garden Week (first week in June).   Donor:  Patsy Epperson.

#10 – YOUTH HORTICULTURE AWARD - Rotating plaque awarded to a club or council that has successfully conducted an outstanding educational horticulture project with youth through a school, Junior Garden Club, or other organization.  Donor: June Van Steyn.

#11a – GARDEN THERAPY WITH THE ELDERLY AWARD - $25 awarded to a club sponsoring an outstanding program of Garden Therapy with the elderly. 

#11b – GARDEN THERAPY AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a club sponsoring an outstanding program of Garden Therapy with other than the elderly

#12 – FLOWER SHOW AWARD $25 awarded to a single club sponsoring a Standard or Small Standard Flower Show during the award year.  Include a copy of the schedule and book of evidence.

#13 – YOUTH BEAUTIFICATION THOURGH LITTER CONTROL  AWARD - $25 awarded to a club sponsoring an outstanding program on litter control with youth. 

#14 – GARDEN CLUB BEAUTIFICATION THROUGH LITTER CONTROL  AWARD- $25 awarded to a club or club member sponsoring an outstanding litter control project. 

 #15 - ARBOR DAY AWARD- $25 awarded to a club for an outstanding Arbor Day program.     

 #16 – BIRDS, BACKYARD WILDLIFE HABITAT AWARD - $25.00 awarded to a club with the largest percentage of certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat members.  (Presidents, this should be shown on your Club Reports.)
