EAST LOWCOUNTRY DISTRICT AWARDS

District Awards #38, 39, 40 and 41 will be awarded according to the guidelines stated in the current GCSC Handbook.

Send one copy to GSCS President, Donna Donnelly, 4494 McCord’s Ferry Road, Elloree, SC 29847, and one copy to East Lowcountry District Director, Michael Pound, 4070 Indigo Ridge Drive, North Charleston, SC 29420 postmarked before September 1.  The District first place winner in each of the following categories will be forwarded to the GCSC Awards Chairman for statewide competition.

#38 – CLUB YEARBOOK AWARD: DUE September 1st. Send copy to District Director and GCSC President. First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention awards may be given in each membership class (Clubs under 20; 20-29; 30-44; 45-69; 70-99; 100-299; and over 300 members)

#39 – COUNCIL YEARBOOK AWARD: DUE September 1st. Send copy to District Director and GCSC President. Certificate awarded to the Council with the most informative yearbook; judged in membership categories the same as Yearbook Awards.

#40 – CLUB REPORTS: DUE February 1st. Send copy to District Director and GCSC President; judged in membership categories the same as Yearbook Awards.

#41 – COUNCIL REPORTS: DUE February 1st. Send copy to District Director and GCSC President; judged in membership categories the same as Yearbook Awards.

EAST LOWCOUNTRY DISTRICT AWARDS

A separate “Award Application” must be prepared for each award and submitted to the ELC District Director and the East Lowcountry Co-Director by the said deadline. The “Application Form” is found on the GCSC Website, East Lowcountry District, Award information. A submission must not exceed three pages (One sided only), making a total of three single sided pages. These may be emailed to the District Director and the Co-Director at any time prior to or by February 1. (Also, please make a copy of your emailed pages for your copies). If a hard copy is the only option you have …Folder color is optional. Three (3) single sided Pages with attached pictures securely fastened in clear sheet covers.

Each Award Application should include:
1. Name of award and award number (Ex: Container Gardening Award, #1).
2. Name of garden club, club President and person submitting award application.
3. A summary of your project, including the reason why your club considered this a worthwhile project.
4. One or more photos may be included, preferably a ‘before’ & ‘after’ if appropriate.
ALL PHOTOS MUST BE LABLED.

5. An indication of the costs involved and the source of funding (lengthy budget not necessary).

6. The number of club members who worked on the project and whether any community participation was involved.

The following awards will be judged on individual merit and will not be divided into membership categories. A book of evidence is required except for #1, #2, #3, and #10 which will be taken from your Club President’s Report.

  SERVICE & RECOGNITION AWARDS

1. DISTRICT DIRECTOR SERVICE CITATION AWARD – Framed Certificate awarded to an outstanding individual or individuals who continues to devote their time, talents, service, efforts, and outstanding contributions to the East Lowcountry District and beyond. This award will be presented by ELC District Director at his discretion during our District Meeting. No Application needed.

COMPETETIVE AWARDS

2. PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARD – $25.00 Awarded to a Garden Club having the greatest percentage of members attending the Spring District Meeting, excluding the host Garden Club/ Clubs. Numbers will be taken from the Club President’s Report.

3. MEMBERSHIP AWARD – $25.00 awarded to the Garden Club with the highest percentage increase in membership during the award year. Include details in Club President’s Report.

4. CLUB PROGRAM AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club for an original program written by a garden club member and presented to club. Program theme must be one of GCSC Objectives (Birds, Garden Therapy, Horticulture, etc.). Application required.

5. CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for an outstanding civic beautification project of a public site in the community. Application required.

6. CHRISTMAS BEAUTIFICATION AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for an outstanding project decorating a public building such as a nursing home, library, hospital, historic building/home, community center or public place. Application required.

7. HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club, group of Garden Clubs, or Council for an outstanding preservation project or historic garden, cemetery, park or marker. Application required.

8. SCHOOLYARD WILDLIFE HABITAT AWARD – $25.00 awarded to the Garden Club, or Council with the most outstanding service to a Schoolyard Habitat and/or Carolina Fence Garden at a school. Application required.

9. BLUE STAR HIGHWAY AWARD – $25.00 awarded to the Garden Club or Council with the most outstanding project to establish, renovate, or maintain a Blue Star Highway/Memorial Marker, By-way Marker, or a Gold Families Memorial Marker. Application required.

10. BIRDS, BACKYARD WILDLIFE HABITAT AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club with the largest percentage of certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat members. Include details in Club President’s Report.

11. ARBOR DAY AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for an outstanding Arbor Day program and community involvement in celebration of Arbor Day. Application required.

12. “TWEELY-DEE” TREE/ SHRUB AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for planting the most trees and shrubs in a public setting or a private setting. Please indicate on award application if location(s) were public or private. Please include pictures of plantings, name of trees/shrubs being planted, and the qty of each tree or shrub being planted. Application required.

13. CAROLINA CHICKADEE AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for the most exceptional project that emphasize on conserving and protecting birds, promoting community involvement showcasing Garden Club or Council dedication to and promotion of bird habitat and general education. Application required.

14. NATIVE PLANT AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for the best project that identifies, promotes and celebrates native plants within the East Lowcountry District. Application required.

15. YOUTH AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council for the most comprehensive project or program emphasizing conservation of Air, Water, Forest, Land, Wildlife, Gardening, Horticulture, Litter Control or Recycling efforts while working and educating Youth. Youth may be with a school, Junior Garden Club, or other organization. Application required.

16A. GARDEN THERAPY WITH THE ELDERLY AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council sponsoring an outstanding and most effective therapeutic program or project of Garden Therapy with the elderly. Application required.

16B. GARDEN THERAPY AWARD – 25.00 awarded to a Garden Club or Council sponsoring an outstanding and most effective therapeutic program or project of Garden Therapy – other than the elderly. Application required.

17. NATIONAL GARDEN WEEK AWARD – $25.00 award to a Garden Club or Council with the most outstanding project, exhibit, activity, and documentation of activities promoting the objectives of GCSC during National Garden Week (first week in June). Application required.

18. FLOWER SHOW AWARD – $25.00 awarded to a single club sponsoring a Standard or Small Standard Flower Show during the award year. Include a copy of the schedule and application required.

19. JERRY WEISE HORTICULTURE AWARD – Certificate and Rosette awarded to an individual winning the most blue ribbons in Horticulture in a Standard or Small Standard Flower Show during the award year. Photocopies of signed and dated ribbons must accompany application.

20. DEE SHORT DESIGN AWARD – Certificate and Rosette awarded to an individual winning the most blue ribbons in Designs in a Standard or Small Standard Flower Show during the award year. Photocopies of signed and dated ribbons must accompany application.
