Coastal District Meeting Report
The Coastal district meeting held March 13th, 2012 was a special day for everyone who attended.
I send my sincere thanks to all district members who attended this meeting and especially thank you to the South Strand Garden Club, members and President Barbara Peterson for hosting this wonderful meeting. The room was lovely and the table decorations delightful
GCSC President Maida Dantzler met with club officers for an informative “Meet and Greet” session. At the same time Karen Prewitt, GCSC Environmental Education Chairman “wowed” her audience with her presentation on “Going Green”. The appreciative attendees were full of ideas as they left the program.
Chaplain Mildred Parker honored the group with her invocation and blessing for the lovely lunch. Presentations during the meeting by Donna Hummelman, GCSC “Good to Grow” Chairman and Judith Dill, GCSC 1st Vice-President. They each gave power point programs; Donna on the project to encourage food to table program within in schools, and Judith who showed a power point program combining Landscape Initiative and Follow the Blooms.
The awards presentation by Diana Haimerl, Dist Co-director, had 5 clubs walking away with all the prizes..Bet there are more clubs next year.
Several vendors as well as the GCSC Logo sales, with Diana Haimerl and ticket sales for “Follow the Blooms” made for a lively sales area.
The Coastal Creators designs were in keeping with the “green” theme and enjoyed by all. Carl Claytor presented a wonderful program on seasonal horticulture and gave the members to opportunity to purchase the plants ( They all sold and the district received a % of the purchases for the Coastal dist Scholarship fund—Thank you Carl and Barbara Murray).
